The divorce follows speculation that the couple had reconciled after breaking up shortly after celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary in 2023. The 31-year-old rapper had taken to Instagram Live in December 2023 to reveal that she has been "single for a minute." The breakup was the latest of several that the pair have suffered during their tumultuous relationship.
On the heels of the divorce news, Cardi revealed she's pregnant and expecting her third child with Offset.
The pair, who privately tied the knot in 2017 after a whirlwind romance, share two other children: daughter Kulture, 6, and son Wave, 2. Offset is also father to Jordan and Kalea and Kody from previous relationships.
Despite their ups and downs -- which saw Cardi previously filing for divorce twice before calling it off -- the rappers have always maintained a strong respect for one another. Here's a look at the ups and downs of Cardi B and Offset's years-long romance.
In mid-October, there was a little disagreement that caused breakup rumors to spread (a since-deleted Instagram post of Cardi that had "single" written on it didn't help), but the Bronx-born rapper would later apologize to fans for blowing things out of proportion, ended her Twitter apology, "Naaa but on a serious note I really loveeeee my man
he was gifted to me from Jesus
."
Less than a week later, Offset popped the question to Cardi in front of 20,000 people during their Power 99 Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia. As we would find out later, the couple had already been secretly married at this point, but that didn’t stop Cardi from gushing about the gigantic diamond sparkler on social media. “Jesus Christ I’m so emotional, @offsetyrn I love you so much,” she wrote. “Thank you for seeing the potential in me since you met me. For giving me advice molding me and loving me.”
She went on to note, “It’s not right, what he f**king did, but people don’t know what I did, ‘cause I ain’t no angel.”
Cardi took to Instagram to share the couple's Rolling Stone cover, which features Offset kissing Cardi's bare baby bump. Emblazoned next to them on the cover were the words, "Cardi B & Offset: A Hip-Hop Love Story."
Offset referred to Cardi as his “wife” when Migos accepted the BET Award for Best Group, prompting immediate speculation as to whether or not that pair had gotten secretly married. After Offset’s slip-up, Cardi confirmed that she had married the rapper the previous September in a message to her fans on social media. “There are so many moments that I share with the world and there are moments that I want to keep for myself!” she wrote. “Getting married was one of those moments! Our relationship was so new, breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we was so in love we didn’t want to lose each other, was one morning in September we woke up and decided to get married. We founds someone to marry us. And she did, just the two of us and my cousin. I said I do, with no dress no make up and no ring!” She also called out her haters for claiming that she was having a child out of wedlock, because, surprise, she was not.
Two days later, Cardi would start to share photos from her baby shower on June 27. "Thank you everybody for coming," she wrote. "I really appreciated with all my heart and will never forget ya!!!
Cardi announced that she had given birth to her and Offset's daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus, with a series of nude maternity photos of herself.
The new parents opted not to share photos of their daughter on social media, but did post a pic together as they took their baby girl to get her shots. “Doctors visit with mom and Dad,” Cardi captioned the photo.
To celebrate parenthood, Cardi and Offset bought matching Lamborghinis and posed next to one another with their new his-and-her Lamborghinis.
Less than two months after giving birth, Cardi looked incredible in a nude photo that Offset posted of her. The Migos rapper captioned the pic, “Wifey, goddess, beauty.”
One day after announcing her breakup, Cardi shares the first photo of her daughter's face via Instagram. She captioned the sweet snap, "My heart." Later that night, she would rock rainbow tresses while partying the night away in Miami, her first public appearance since the split.
Social media users called the incident a PR stunt after a video surfaced of Cardi's publicist, Patientce Foster, seemingly in on it, as she was seen ushering Offset to the stage, but the "I Like It" rapper slammed those rumors in a series of NSFW posts. Still, Rolling Loud co-founder Tariq Cherif claimed in a statement to the Los Angeles Times that Cardi's management was aware of the stunt. "We were told she was going to have a guest star during her set, that it was going to be [Offset's rap trio] Migos, but we didn’t know anything about that stunt," the statement read. "We’re getting blamed as if we conspired to do this, and I just want to make it clear that we did not."
Back on? Despite their issues, the estranged pair enjoyed time together in Puerto Rico. In photos obtained byTMZ, the two were seen cozying while jet skiing, and Offset shared pics from the water adventure to his Instagram Story, where a glimpse of Cardi could be seen in one of the mirrors. Cardi also shared an Instagram Story video of herself wearing a white two-piece and dancing along to music while in her hotel room, and the clip contained Puerto Rico flag emojis.
On Kulture's second birthday, Cardi defended Offset for gifting their daughter with a Birkin bag. "When celebrities buy their kids jewelry and designer s**t, people be like, 'Kids don't care about that. They only care about toys and candy,'" she said on her Instagram Story. "Yeah, they only care about toys and candy but the thing is the kids also go outside. You know what I'm saying? Kids go to restaurants, kids go to fancy places, celebrity kids, they go do red carpets."
Cardi added, "And if I'm fly and Daddy's fly, then so is the kid. If I'm wearing Cha-nay-nay, my kid's having the same same, you know what I'm saying?" she quipped. "It's not up to what the kids like. If it was the kids, they'd be outside in diapers. Because if I was looking like a bad b**ch, expensive b**ch and I have my kid looking like a bum bum, then y'all would be talking s**t. So I'm not mad that Daddy bought baby a Birkin. She's gonna match Mommy."
Cardi threw her husband a 29th birthday bash in Atlanta, which received some backlash from fans as it was held amid the coronavirus pandemic. Videos posted to both rappers' Instagram Stories showed them partying all night and into the morning with friends in a packed nightclub. Judging from the videos, it appeared most attendees (including the couple) decided to forgo masks and any form of social distancing. ET reached out to Cardi for comment, and in a press release shared by Offset's rep, it notes that "COVID prevention measures included COVID testing prior to entry, sanitation of the building prior to doors opening courtesy of Sanitary and masks and sanitizing stations throughout the party."
During an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Offset opened up to guest host Stephen "tWitch" Boss about how his wife usually rings in Father's Day. "She usually surprises me with an expensive gift, man. That's how it usually goes," the Migos rapper said. "She always just give me love... My other kids who ain't hers... [she] gives them love the same way. It's a beautiful thing." While he admitted to looking forward to the potential for an expensive gift, he said he simply wants "to be at home more than anything, just enjoying the kids... running around [and saying,] 'Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!'... Being able to see them all at once just running around, it's beautiful. Just with the family [having] family time." When Father's Day rolled around, the Georgia native posted the sweet cards his kids wrote him to Instagram.
The "Up" rapper announced her second pregnancy while performing with Migos at the 2021 BET Awards in Los Angeles. Cardi made the reveal with an onstage ensemble that perfectly highlighted her little one on the way. Migos hinted to ET ahead of the show that they had something big in store, teasing, "The most electrifying show on Earth. The Migos are going to break the stage." That same day, Cardi took to Instagram to share a stylized photo of her baby bump, captioning the gorgeous pic, "#2."
Just one day after making a surprise announcement at the 2021 BET Awards that she and Offset are expecting their second child together, Cardi took to Instagram to share pics from a new maternity photo shoot. In a post dedicated to Offset, Cardi thanked everyone for "the congrats and well wishes" after hearing the exciting news about baby No. 2. "We listened to each other, communicated, prayed and then God blessed us and our family with another little blessing," she gushed. "Our home feels so blissful and very busy 😩but we are ready and so happy!!"
Cardi B and Offset welcomed their second child together, a baby boy. The "WAP" rapper shared the big news with an Instagram picture of her and her husband cradling their newborn in the hospital, while under a Louis Vuitton blanket. In a statement, the couple told fans, "We are so overjoyed to finally meet our son. He is already loved so much by family and friends and we can't wait to introduce him to his other siblings." Offset later shared another picture from the hospital, writing, "Chapter 5." The Migos rapper is a father of five. In addition to his and Cardi's daughter, Kulture, he is also a father to daughter Kalea and sons Kody and Jordan from previous relationships.
During the live session, Cardi said, "I don't know if y'all have been getting clues from me from my Live, I mean... or from my Instagram Stories, where I put certain music. When it comes to events and stuff, I don't think it's true, I don't care to find out because I have been single for a minute now."
The 31-year-old rapper acknowledged her struggle in breaking the news, saying, "I have been afraid to... not afraid, but I just don't know how to tell the world. I feel like today has been like a sign. The last time I got on Live, I kind of wanted to tell you, but I didn't know how to tell you, so I changed my mind."
Cardi emphasized that she was ready for a fresh start in 2024, expressing excitement for a new life and a new beginning.
Amid the breakup revelation, Offset is facing additional challenges as rapper Blueface made explicit claims on X (formerly Twitter) that Offset had been intimate with Chrisean Rock. Offset vehemently denied the allegations, responding to Blueface's accusations with a tweet that read, "I ain't never talk or touch that lady. Real Talk man you need some help!"
The drama unfolded further on social media, with Blueface insisting that Chrisean slept with Offset and providing details of the alleged encounter, including the date and time.
More recently, the two were photographed holding hands at a Met Gala after-party. Despite the subtle PDA, Cardi made it sound in her latest interview like they still have matters to resolve -- and, according to her, she's partly to blame when it comes to her priorities.
The unborn child will join Cardi's older children with Offset, 6-year-old daughter Kulture and 2-year-old son Wave. The former Migos member, 32, is also father to Jordan, 14, and Kalea and Kody, both 9, from previous relationships.
While fans have been speculating that Cardi has been pregnant after the rapper's recent appearances where she displayed a noticeable baby bump, the pregnancy comes amid the headline-making news that Cardi has filed for divorce from Offset.
According to Page Six, Cardi is seeking primary custody of Kulture and Wave.
